Factory Five Racing (FFR) Challenge Series driver Karen Salvaggio joined National Auto Sport Association (NASA) competitors under stunning Northern California clear, blue skies for the season opener at Thunderhill Raceway on March 9-10, 2008. With more than 40 competitors in the field, Race Group B was one of the largest run groups of the weekend, and was the venue for the Factory Five Racing Challenge Series racers, Camaro-Mustang Challenge cars, American Iron and American Iron Extreme racers, as well as the all out Super Unlimited class.
Looking secure and confident in her FFR Challenge Series car, Karen picked up where she left off last season, securing fast time (and setting a new track record) in the qualifying session, and taking pole position for the Saturday afternoon race. At the green flag, Karen got a great jump on the field, taking a commanding lead on her competitors, and led the race flag to take the win. “The car was really hooked up, and felt like it was on rails. Kudos to my fellow Cobra drivers on the great run. They are all outstanding racers, and they sure kept the heat on the entire race. I could tell Dave (Standridge) was giving it all he had, and I knew he was there the entire race, but I was determined to drive clean, race hard, and bring the victory home.”
Now in her third season racing the Factory Five Challenge Series Cobras, Karen is fresh off an impressive 2007 season, in which she secured five pole positions, eight top five finishes, and two overall race victories. She and the “Racing 4 A Reason” Team also took on the biggest endurance racing challenge in North America by competing in the 25 Hours of Thunderhill in December 2007. Enduring rain, wind, and snow, the team completed more than 1400 miles under racing conditions, and proved they were up to the test.

Karen's next race will be at the challenging Infineon ( Sears Point ) Raceway in the wine country of Northern California on April 12-13. She should know that track well, as her team raced there in February, setting another track record, and bringing home an equally impressive podium finish (2 nd place) in EO Class in the 2.5 hour enduro. The team also posted an outstanding 7 th overall position in the race, running against racecars of much greater horsepower, after starting (random draw) in the 29 th place.
