Dr. Audrey
Zavodsky was invited to join the Air National Guard at the Selfridge
Air Force base for a refueling exercise. Dr.
Audrey was invited by Lieutenant Colonel Tammy McKone as a
guest of the United States Air Force's 927th Air Refueling Wing
to fly in a KC-135 R tanker.
Dr. Audrey was given the royal
tour, which began with boarding the aircraft for a flight that
would take them over the Mackinaw bridge and into Northern Wisconsin. At
that point the F-16's appeared and were spectacular in their arrival. The
F-16 pilots skillfully maneuvered into position for the refueling. Dr.
Audrey was all eyes as the technician maneuvered the refueling
device into the fuselage of the F-16. As she would describe
it, "an absolute spectacular display of engineering beauty at work". "These
guys are professional in every sense of the word."
Dr. Audrey was joined by fellow employees and Naval Reserve 'Sailor
of the Year' Todd Brooks and Rob Weiss of the Air Force who happened
to be on duty that weekend.
