Geneva "Gee Wiz" Williams

NHRA Outlaw Pro Street

When Geneva Williams was born, Shirley Muldowney was just a few years from making history in drag racing. Janet Guthrie and Lyn St. James were also starting on the path to making history in oval track racing. It may have been 35 years in the making but Geneva Williams is also ready to make her mark in the world of women in racing.

Besides being a mother to son, Jayden, Williams is also the daughter, sister and cousin in a family of racers. Williams grew up watching racing with her earliest memories being of her cousin, Melvin, drag racing his 1967 Pontiac Firebird. Her brother Emerson "THE WIZ" has had the most influence in Williams's "need for speed." Besides her brother, admiration for Angelle Savoie and inspiration from John Force drives this lady racer to do her best.

For the last five years, this Columbia, Maryland native has been up and down the East Coast racing in the Outlaw Pro Street and Super Street classes. In her drag racing career, she has raced at tracks in Maryland, Virginia, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and has made the trek to Orlando, Florida to Speed World for the 11th annual World Street Nationals. Williams's short-term goal is to win this event and she would like to move on to becoming a full-time pro-street driver.

Williams raced down the track in 2003 in an amber orange, 1968 Chevrolet Camaro with a 582 big block with two stages of nitrous and a turbo 400 transmission. The "WIZ" racing machine nabbed Williams the 2nd fastest woman in a street car for 2003 and put her in the limelight as the only woman in the East Coast OPS class during 2002-2003 season. Williams's passion and "no fear" attitude show with her best elapsed times of a 5.05 in the 1/8 mile @ 149 MPH and 7.85 in the 1/4 mile @ 174 MPH.

Reaction time is something that William's feels she needs to work on in an effort to help fulfill her racing fantasy, which is, to attend the National Hotrod Racing Association awards banquet as a "top 5" driver of the year during her first year of professional racing.

Her racing career includes a dedicated pit crew and family: Crew chief and brother, Emerson "THE WIZ" Williams Jr., brother, Kelvin "WIZ TOO" Williams, Richard "Uncle Sonny" Thomas, Andrew "Jackson" Ford, Derrick Reed and Larry Gaffigan.

Off track, Williams's work's hard at her other goal, being a great Mom to Jayden. She also enjoys attending church and growing in her faith. As this fast lady pursues her racing career, she is not only making a name for herself and WIZ Racing in the world of motorsports but creating memories that will give her the right to say to her grandkids and great-grand kids someday, "...Grandma was pretty fast in her day."
