women are making an indelible mark...

One look at the front-page stories on the Thunder Valley Racing website this month, and our readers will have to agree that women are indeed making an indelible mark on the world of motorsports. With the 2006 race season rapidly coming to a close, activity on the Thunder Valley Racing website has reached an all-time high. Over the last few months, we’ve noted a shift in public interest in women racers…….moving from a mere curiosity in the topic (Women racers, huh???), to a genuine thirst for knowledge about the amazing women who suit up and follow their racing dreams.

More women racers registered with our site in the last few months than ever before; each with a growing passion for racing and a commitment to on-track success. This month, we are very pleased to feature National Auto Sport Association (NASA) racer Donna Gilio. Her perseverance, driving skill, and determination produced a podium finish at the inaugural NASA National Championships held at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in September. Congratulations to you and the team that supports your efforts Donna!

Racers know that the success of a race team lies in the skill of the driver, the synergy of a competent team, and is dependent upon reliable funding sources to provide quality equipment for the effort. The financial ability of a team to sustain itself through the “learning curve” is perhaps the biggest determiner of success (or failure) in racing, and over the last six years, I’ve seen more than one extremely talented driver (male and female) drop from the race circuit due to lack of funding. Driving Divas Leilani Munter, Melanie Troxell, and Indy car standout Danica Patrick found just that level of support with Hostess, and we salute this corporation’s belief in women racers! Now, let’s get some of that funding at the grass roots level and see what can really happen!

we will keep shining the light...

Here’s hoping the remainder of the 2006 season finds on-track success for all of our drivers. Thunder Valley Racing serves as the premier source for information on women in racing, and as the ranks continue to grow, we will keep shining the light on these amazing women and the dedicated individuals that are helping them follow their racing dreams!
